IN TAI CHI by Emma Jean McKinin
We part the wild horse’s mane, Or carry a tiger to the mountain. We become the winged crane, And emulate the rising sun. We strum the lute And sweep the lotus. We stretch for fruit And pull water to us. We express from the heart, Then accept its stillness. We present the fan to impart A sweet sense of oneness. We pull a needle from the sea, And stand as a golden cock. We repulse and repulse the monkey. We punch, parry and block. Again, and yet again, We grasp the sparrow’s tail. And then, in the end, We embrace the chi, our Being, our grail. Where else, but in Tai Chi Such daring, such synergy!
